Portico House is a huge bungalow featuring porticoes, verandas, courtyards and gardens that encourage socializing and contact with nature, which penetrates the structure.
DEN Architecture, the firm behind the project, exploited the house’s passive solar orientation, using high-performance doors and windows.
The project was awarded an Honourable Mention in the Single-Family Residential Category at the 2022 Ceramics of Italy Tile Competition, the competition that awards the best architectural achievements in North America to use Italian ceramic tiles, divided into five categories: Multifamily Residential, Single-Family Residential, Commercial, Institutional and Student.
The designers opted for Basaltina Stone Project’s lava rock effect, which perfectly harmonizes with the sustainability and colour scheme of the entire home. Basaltina resembles natural stone with its minimalist, striking look, making the surfaces very elegant, while retaining their natural character. This through-body porcelain stoneware collection resembles basalt stone and, depending on the processes it undergoes, takes on different colours. The natural Sabbiata Velvet finish gives the space a minimalist look, while the 60x120cm-size modules enhance the surface, creating a distinct separation from the natural elements surrounding the building.
